A great start to the 2011-2012 Season
We had a great start to our 2011-2012 season. This is our first season in
our new meeting place at St. Andrew’s Church in Framingham.
At this meeting, three
of our AA members who are also competition judges (Mike Roman, Mike Goodman,
and Ed McGuirk) told us, from each of
their perspectives, what camera
club judges look for in competition images. Notes from each of the judges can
be found
in the Resources Section.

On Wednesday, October 5, members of BWPS were treated to the program "Environmental
Portraits: From CEOs to
Children", presented by Kathy Tarantola. Kathy discussed the
details of planning a shoot when typically there’s no time for
prior location scouting.
What is important is the ability to think on your feet and adapt to the situation as well
as how to work
with people to make them comfortable, and how to create flattering lighting
given sometimes difficult situations. Showing
examples of her portraits, Kathy went thru
the details of how each was accomplished.
Creating an engaging portrait of a subject
can
be challenging, but when working in a subject’s own environment you can tell a story which
you might not achieve in a studio.
We look forward to the Open Competition coming up on Wednesday, October 19th, with judge Gail Hansche-Godin.
