Spring 2008
The final NECCC Nature Slide interclub competition was held March 10th at the Greater Lynn Photographic Association. Boston West Photographic Society once again took First Place with 104 points, just one point ahead of Greater Lynn. Third place went to Photographic Society of Rhode Island with 96 points.
Here is what the judging committee had to say: "The Competition was well attended, went smoothly, and was well received by the audience. There were many excellent photographs and a significant number depicted strong nature stories. The judges took the instructions on weighing the nature story more heavily than the pictorial quality to heart and so those slides having stronger nature stories did as well if not better than the older portrait type shots."
See below for the cumulative totals and standings for the year.
Congratulations to Ed McGuirk for his Second Place slide Mountain Lion and Deer, which earned 29 points (one other slide earned 29 points but was given 1st Place on the tie-break; it was Kent Crossley's That's Close Enough). Congratulations also go to Ian Dicker for his 3rd Place White Tail Buck Sunrise, which earned 27 points and tied with two other slides.
This was an awesome year with winning first place in all three of the competitions! Congratulations, BWPS and thank you to all members who allowed their slides to be used. Since we no longer have many slide shooters in the club this is expected to be our last year entering this competition. The final decision will be made over the summer.

Fall 2007
The first of three New England Camera Club Council Nature Interclub competitions of the season was held October 27th at Beal College and hosted by the Eastern Maine Camera Club. The judges were Lois Davis, Professor Ron Davis, and Diana Porter. With 104 points Boston West PS finished in 1st place out of 14 clubs in Class A. Greater Lynn Photographic Association was not far behind with 102 points, and 3rd place was taken was Springfield PS with 95 points. Sixteen clubs are signed up for the competitions, but two clubs failed to get their entries in. And two clubs failed to send in a full entry (or four slides).
Our own Ed McGuirk had the highest scoring slide for his Pair of Foxes, which earned 28 points and First Place. There was a three-way tie for Second Place, each with 27 points, and the two 26 point slides were awarded Honorable Mentions. Mike Goodman was one of these. Our other two slides were close behind with 25 points each.
Congratulations to Ed, Mike, and the whole club!
